About Code Copper

Inside the cube is a city we built.

Code Copper is a product engineering studio. Every building in the skyline above stands for something we put into production — a platform, a storefront, a copilot, a control plane — and every line between them is a system that had to keep talking to another system.

To help startups and enterprises build modern, scalable, and intelligent digital products.

We work as one senior team across research, design, architecture and delivery. No handoff between agencies, no translation loss between the people who designed it and the people who have to keep it running.

  1. 2016

    Founded in Austin

Three engineers, one rule: ship things we would be willing to maintain ourselves.

  2. 2019

    Cloud practice

Infrastructure moved in-house so architecture and delivery stopped being separate conversations.

  3. 2022

    Design system era

Every engagement began shipping with tokens, documentation and a real component library.

  4. 2024

    AI engineering

Retrieval and agentic workflows joined the stack — with eval harnesses, not demos.

What we build

Eight disciplines. One delivery team.

Each card is a practice we staff with senior people. Open one to see what actually lands in your repository at the end of an engagement.

  • 01

    Custom Websites

Marketing sites that convert and never feel templated.

  • 02

    Web Applications

Complex product surfaces built to stay maintainable.

  • 03

    Mobile Apps

Native-feeling iOS and Android from one codebase.

  • 04

    AI Automation

LLM systems with guardrails, evals and cost control.

  • 05

    Cloud Engineering

Infrastructure that survives your growth curve.

  • 06

    UI/UX Design

Interface craft grounded in real user research.

  • 07

    API Development

Contracts that outlive the clients consuming them.

  • 08

    Maintenance

A team on retainer that knows your codebase cold.

How we work

A process built to remove surprises.

Eight stages, each with a named output. You always know what exists at the end of the week and what it unlocks next.

  1. 01Week 1

    Discover

We map the business outcome before the feature list — stakeholders, constraints, existing systems and the metric that decides whether this project worked.

    • Stakeholder map
    • Success metrics
    • Constraint log
  2. 02Week 1–2

    Research

User interviews, competitive teardown and a technical spike on anything genuinely unknown. We de-risk the scary part first, not last.

    • User insights
    • Technical spike
    • Risk register
  3. 03Week 2–4

    Design

Flows, wireframes and a high-fidelity prototype backed by design tokens. You click through the real thing before a single production component exists.

    • Interactive prototype
    • Design tokens
    • Motion spec
  4. 04Week 3–4

    Architecture

Data model, service boundaries, rendering strategy and deployment topology — written up as decision records so the reasoning survives the handover.

    • ADRs
    • Data model
    • Infra plan
  5. 05Week 4–12

    Development

Two-week increments against a live preview environment. Every pull request ships behind review, type checks and an automated accessibility pass.

    • Preview per PR
    • Typed codebase
    • Storybook
  6. 06Continuous

    Testing

Unit, integration and end-to-end coverage on the paths that carry revenue, plus load tests and a manual screen-reader run before every release.

    • E2E suite
    • Load profile
    • WCAG 2.1 AA audit
  7. 07Launch week

    Deployment

Blue-green rollout, feature flags, rollback triggers agreed in advance, and dashboards live before traffic arrives — not after the first incident.

    • Zero-downtime release
    • Runbook
    • Dashboards & alerts
  8. 08Ongoing

    Support

A named engineer on retainer, quarterly performance and security audits, and a roadmap review so the product keeps compounding after launch.

    • SLA cover
    • Quarterly audit
    • Roadmap review

01 · Cloud Platform

Helio Grid

Helio Energy · 2025

Operators were reconciling telemetry across four legacy dashboards, and a fault could take nineteen minutes to surface. Every minute of delay cost measurable generation revenue.

11s
Fault detection
40k
Assets live
3
Tools retired

What we did

  1. Replaced polling with an event-driven ingest pipeline on Kafka, collapsing four dashboards into one control plane.

  2. Modelled asset hierarchy in PostgreSQL with time-partitioned telemetry and continuous aggregates.

  3. Built a WebGL site map that renders 40k live nodes at 60fps using instanced geometry.

  4. Shipped an incident timeline that replays any fault window frame by frame.

Fault detection dropped from nineteen minutes to under eleven seconds, and the operations team retired three internal tools in the first quarter.

Northbank

Commercial onboarding involved eleven handoffs, six PDFs and a compliance review that ran entirely over email. Drop-off after step three exceeded 40%.

Audit findings

What we did

  1. Rebuilt the flow as a resumable, server-rendered wizard with per-step persistence.

  2. Automated KYB checks through a rules engine with a full audit trail for regulators.

  3. Introduced a reviewer console with queue prioritisation and SLA visibility.

  4. Instrumented every step so the compliance team could see drop-off in real time.

Account opening now completes in fifty-two minutes on average, and abandonment fell by 61% within two quarters.

03 · AI Solution

Atlas Copilot

Atlas Logistics · 2024

Contract analysts spent roughly six hours a week locating clauses across 180,000 scanned documents, and confidence in generic AI search was low after a failed pilot.

94%
Eval accuracy
5/wk
Hours saved / analyst
180k

What we did

  1. Built an OCR and chunking pipeline tuned for scanned freight paperwork.

  2. Combined hybrid retrieval with reranking, then grounded every answer in a citation.

  3. Shipped an eval harness of 400 analyst-written questions gating each deploy.

  4. Capped per-query cost and latency with a routing layer across model tiers.

Analysts recovered roughly five hours each week, and answer accuracy holds at 94% against the eval suite release over release.

  • Senior-only delivery

The engineers in the pitch are the engineers on the build. No pyramid staffing, no silent handoff to juniors after week two.

  • Budgets, not promises

Performance, accessibility and cost targets are written into the contract and enforced by automation on every pull request.

  • Decisions on the record

Every architectural choice ships with a decision record, so your team can defend and revisit it long after we leave.

  • Built to be handed over

Typed codebases, seeded environments and runbooks. Ownership transfer is the deliverable, not an afterthought.

Client voices

What it is like on the other side.

Six engagements, six people who had to live with the result afterwards.

5 out of 5 stars

They rewrote our control plane while it was carrying live production load and we never lost a minute of telemetry. The architecture decisions were documented well enough that our own team took ownership on day one.
